Barefoot Blades Origin Story
Rollerblading is part of our history. As we present our Barefoot Blades concept, we return to Leyenne, a champion rollerblader who joined our project for the Include Summit on inclusive sport in March 2022.
Written on the Body
We have been painting bodies at Barefoot Man since 2013. Seeing the body paint at WNBR London is part of what inspired us to return to the concept. Barefoot Blades includes the idea of painting supportive messages on our bodies as allies. Here is where that started for us, on a beach in Spain in 2016.

Shore Leave at the Lumina
The Lumina shoots were a long time ago, but remain in many ways unforgettable. This naval officer was memorably comfortable with being naked, being photographed and being seen. Some men struggle with being asked to pose nude. This guy was definitely not one of them.
Written on the Body
These images were captured on a beach in Spain in 2016. They are one of the tropes in our work that has led to the Barefoot Blades concept for World Naked Bike Ride. You can also enjoy them set to music in our Written on the Body film, but we know a lot of our supporters enjoy our high quality still images.
Memory Leyenne!
As part of celebrating our new Barefoot Blades concept, we have gone back into to the archive for these images of Leyenne with his rollerblades. We put these to music in our Barefoot Blades Origin Story film but we thought you might like to see them as still shots as well, so here they are as high quality images that some of you may not have been before!
